Simms Flott

Why My Mother?

My mother, Evelyn Simms Flott, was a convert to Catholicism.  A delightful person who, with my father, Allan C. Flott, Sr., brought thirteen children into this world and raised them with love and care. She met and befriended many members of the Order, most especially Brother Hillary Mettes, ST, who was a fixture at family events – weddings, funerals, birthdays, baptisms, etc., etc. Mother, who believed fully in the Order’s mission to the poor and neglected, was a faithful contributor to the ST’s throughout her life participating in what was then the Mission of the Month Club. The money raised in celebrating my 81st birthday (80Wonderful!) will go to the project described in the video by Fr. Guy Wilson in memory of my mother.

Why Trinity Missions?

I thought of becoming a priest after making my first communion in first grade and the thought stayed with me. In eighth grade when we were encouraged to think about high school (in those days if you wanted to attend a Catholic high school, you had to take an entrance exam), I began seriously to think about entering a seminary. The options were studying to become a diocesan priest or joining a religious order. Our local parish priest suggested I meet a priest whom he had met, which led to a trip to Silver Spring, MD where the Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity (ST’s for short) had their headquarters.

There I met Fr. Lawrence Brediger, ST. His generous spirit, gentle manner, calm demeanor, and evident love for the work of the ST’s deeply impressed me. Several months later, I applied to enter the ST’s minor seminary at Holy Trinity, Al in the fall of 1957. While God had other plans for me than becoming an ST, my years studying to be an ST have had a lifelong impact on me and played a major role in shaping the man I have become. I hope you will use the link to visit the Trinity Mission website. Spend some time learning about an order you’ve probably not heard of before that serves the poorest of the poor and does so in active collaboration with laymen and women from all walks of life.

A Video Message From Fr. Guy Wilson

Proceeds will go to support a new soccer field at Sacred Heart Mission in Camden, Mississippi, a project very dear to Stephen’s heart. Creating a new soccer field so children can spend their after school hours enjoying wholesome activities. The field will also serve as a gathering space for community events for people from all our Mississippi missions.
